Press Release
London sizzles in summer, whatever the weather. There are carnivals, parties-in-the-park, open-air exhibitions and theatre, food fairs and entertainment galore. So where better to stay that at an Uptown host-home, right in the heart of Britain's capital, where all the fun of this fair city is on your doorstep? Your personally-selected Uptown hosts will welcome you into their unique home in one of London's most elegant and central areas - Kensington, perhaps, Chelsea, Knightsbridge, Westminster, the West End - right on the spot to make the most of London's 'event-full' season. May has Covent Garden's Fayre and Puppetry Festival; the Taste of London food fair takes place in Marylebone during June when the season is at its height, London Jewellery Week too with its 'open-house' shows, while Chelsea Royal Hospital with its red-coated Pensioners opens its doors to stage its pageant for the first time in a century, recreating history with costumed soldiers, cannon, horses, music and fireworks. The City of London music and arts festival runs into July, with literary events and themed walks, and then come the Proms... Not content with taking over the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington for most of the summer, concert performances spill out into the park via mega-screens, and the iconic Last Night of the Proms on 13 September is a 'must-do'. Trafalgar Square goes wild through August with a festival of street theatre, music and dance, and the vibrant Notting Hill Gate Carnival, Rio-style, dazzles everyone over the holiday weekend at the end of the month. And September has a Seafood Fair and the Mayor's Thames Festival with boats of all kinds, fireworks and the Great River Race... Staying Uptown opens up to you the essence of these wonderful events, courtesy of your host's local knowledge. You'll feel especially welcome, just like staying with friends, and just like a Londoner! You'll enjoy superb accommodation, in homes of architectural or historic significance, with great style, whether cutting-edge or traditionally antique-filled. Your host may be an artist, a designer, a diplomat, an actor. You'll have your own bathroom, of course, possibly your own sitting-room, too, access to an award-winning roof-garden or secluded private garden-square. One home in Pimlico shares its street with the former homes of artist/designers Aubrey Beardsley, Laura Ashley and Barbara Pym, and a church which holds regular concerts and exhibitions. Another has a wealth of exquisite art and a pretty conservatory in which to breakfast. There's plenty of time to book your stay: Uptown's hosts are waiting to welcome you and make sure you don't miss out on the best that London can offer. Back to Press Release Index |
